Les Bacchanales
– winds of Balkans Boston, May 25, 2000Tonight in the wonderful acoustic ambiance of St. Cecilia’s church in downtown Boston we had a unique opportunity to enjoy an exquisite, colorful in tunes, and refreshing performance by the Les Bacchanales – winds of Balkans. Inspirative and radiant in their musical expression, they showed their professionalism, remarkable talent, excellent group coordination, sensibility enriched with the mixture of influences of both jazz and ethno sounds (as a touch from far Balkan lands, probably most notably expressed in Grgin’s "Hameum") and even some tasteful doze of humor through their semi-conventional showcasing, entertaining approach (performance of Shostakovich’s "Polka", and certainly original and amusing "Pink Panther" at the very end).
Les Bacchanales is a woodwind quintet composed of individuals of extreme sensibilities for passion, bohemia, romance, nostalgia and strong temper – group of indeed truly virtuoso musicians: Predrag Ivanovic (horn), Predrag Stamenkovic (bassoon), Dragan Petrovic(clarinet), Dejan Kulenovic (oboe) and the newest member of the group Nikola Radan (flute).
Les Bacchanales originated in Yugoslavia and since 1986 they have toured Europe and around the globe performing at numerous concert halls.
Tonight’s recital was their debut in Boston.
